Dr Jonathan Martin has been privately consulting as a specialist interventional gastroenterologist in Adelaide, for nearly 20 years. He has been highly trained in endoscopic procedures with medical and specialist qualifications from The University of Adelaide and a PhD in Colorectal Cancer Prevention from Flinders University.
In 2003, he was the first Adelaide gastroenterologist to train and become accredited in capsule endoscopy (pillcam), a diagnostic procedure to investigate obscure gastrointestional bleeding. In 2007, he was again the first Adelaide gastroenterologist to train in balloon enteroscopy (an essential therapeutic procedure for investigating and treating small bowel disease), in Japan, under Professor Yamamoto. He has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals and has presented at conferences at national and international levels.
Currently, Dr Jonathan Martin is a Senior Staff Specialist at the Lyell McEwin Hospital and Modbury Hospital. He is also a Senior Visiting Specialist at Ashford, Calvary Wakefield and Stirling Hospitals. He also holds a Senior Lecturer position at The University of Adelaide in Diseases of the Gastrointestinal Tract as well as being appointed a Great-Grandfather of the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE).
Dr Martin performs endoscopic procedures privately at Ashford, Calvary Wakefield and Stirling Hospitals with public procedures at the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals. Pillcam is available in his private rooms at Unley Park as well as at Ashford and Lyell McEwin Hospitals. Balloon enteroscopy is currently available at Ashford and Lyell McEwin Hospitals.
