Speech pathologists provide services to people with communication and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia). Communication disorders may affect speech, fluency, hearing, reading and writing, and language skills.

Swallowing disorders may affect a person’s ability to chew, drink and eat certain foods and/or to swallow safely.

Services

Speech pathologists diagnose and treat communication disorders, including difficulties with speech, language, social communication, swallowing, fluency, voice and multi-modal communication.

They work with clients across the life- span, including people who have difficulty communicating because of developmental delays, stroke, brain injuries, learning disability, intellectual disability, physical disabilities (such as cerebral palsy), dementia, progressive neurological disorders and hearing loss, as well as other problems that can affect speech, language and swallowing.
